Agnė Žagrakalytė was born April 28, 1979 near Pasvalys, Lithuania. She received her bachelor’s degree in Lithuanian philology from the Vilnius Pedagogical University and, since 2002, has worked as editor of the youth magazines Aktyvios jungtys (Active Connections) and lux/jauniems (Lux for Youth). She is also currently the editor of the youth page for the weekly Literatūra ir menas (Literature and Art). She received the Liūnė Sutema Prize in 1996 for her work and was named the laureate of the “Poetry at Night” contest at Lithuania’s 1998 Poetry Spring festival. In 2003, Žagrakalytė was awarded the prize for poetic debut and best first volume of poetry for Išteku (I Marry) at the Druskininkai Poetic Fall festival. Her second book is titled Visa Tiesa Apie Alisa Meler (The Whole Truth About Alisa Meler, Lithuanian Writers Union Publishers, 2008). She is married to the translator Edgaras Platelis and lives with him and their two children in Brussels, where her husband works for the European Union.
